Dr. LaSaundra Booth is an accomplished arts administrator, educator and entrepreneur. Booth is the founder of Wake Forest Community Youth Orchestra (WFCYO), a nonprofit organization that provides expert orchestral instruction and free instruments to youth living in rural and under-resourced communities. In her tenure, Booth secured nonprofit status for the organization in only 7 days from initial application, increased enrollment from 36 students to over 400 students within two years, and tripled the annual operating budget through a mix of successful funding campaigns, corporate sponsorships and federal grants.
Booth has over 19 years experience as a music educator touching every level from primary to collegiate. She is currently the lecturer for music education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she prepares the next generation of educators to lead culturally inclusive arts education programs. Her entrepreneurial accomplishments include a successful digital cookbook “Meals for Musicians: Delicious Meals to Fit Your Busy Lifestyle” K-12 teaching artist residencies, a patent for music apparatus (USPTO# 20140260902), and a for-profit string quartet booking agency.
Booth is passionate about diversity, equity and inclusion. She has spent most of her career recognizing artistry in diverse and under-resourced communities by creating pathways to increase access to high quality arts programming in rural and under-resourced communities of color. Booth believes in moving curriculum and programming towards liberation, which will equal the playing field for the global majority.
