Exchanges
Shenandoah University, established in 1875, is a private university with a creative and friendly community. We have more than 4000 students in 200+ areas of study. Our main campus is located in Winchester, Virginia, approximately 90 minutes from downtown Washington, D.C.
Shenandoah University has partnerships with the University of Winchester in England, Audencia Business School (Nantes, Frances), and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance in London. We are also a member of the International Student Exchange Program (ISEP), which is a global network of 300 universities.
Study at Shenandoah
You can find a complete listing of courses we offer in upcoming terms here.
Exchange students may select from nearly all courses we offer; please note that exchange students are not eligible for music theater or most health professions tracks.
- Most exchange students take 12 credits, which is usually four classes. Additional credits are not always covered by our exchange agreements, and you may have to pay for them personally—please ask us if you are interested in additional classes.
- Please be flexible—we will make every effort to register you for your preferred classes; however, availability of courses can change and some courses may be restricted to degree-seeking students. We cannot guarantee enrollment in a class, even if it is required by your home university.
Costs
Tuition is waived for all incoming exchange students. However, depending on your university’s agreement with Shenandoah, you may still have to pay certain fees, such as room and board; health insurance; and the housing deposit. View the cost of attendance.
The costs of on-campus accommodation and meal plans can be found here. If you are living on campus, you are required to purchase a meal plan.
After you are accepted
- Obtain your visa. (We will send specific instructions on how to do this.)
- Housing: If you are planning to live on campus, apply for housing (priority deadline is May 31 for the fall term). You must pay the $100 housing deposit as a part of this process.
- Medical forms: All enrolled Shenandoah students must submit proof of immunizations and be seen by a healthcare professional before beginning at Shenandoah. Refill prescriptions (medicine, eyeglasses) and bring a supply to last you through your stay. Healthcare is prohibitively expensive in the United States and it is best to bring what you will need.
- Purchase a health insurance plan. It must meet your J-1 visa regulations.
- Make sure you can log in to your Shenandoah email and Hornet Hub, where you can check your course registration and pay bills. You will receive login information after you are accepted; please make sure you check your junk and spam folders. If you do not receive your login information, please contact us.
- Pay your fees. You can locate your balance and make payments by logging in to Hornet Hub.
- Submit your arrival information. We will send a form a few weeks prior to orientation to collect your arrival information and arrange for pick up at the airport or train station.
Important dates
Application: Applications are accepted on a rolling basis; however, preference is given to those who apply by May 1 for the fall term, and October 1 for the spring term. Advisors: Please send recommendations by March 1 for the fall and September 1 for the spring term.
